Though a Green Heron’s feathers can sometimes (as here) appear blue, its chestnut body, its white chest stripe, and the distinctive green halo around its eyes confirm its identity. Thanks, George. This was taken by the canal in my backyard, just before 1PM on a slightly overcast day, so I had the advantage of relatively bright mid-day light but little to no shadow.
