Blue Herons can be silently intense when stalking a potential snack. This one focuses its attention on an unsuspecting dragonfly just inches away. Photographed in Coral Springs, Florida, April 18, 2014. Higher resolution versions of this photo can be viewed at 500px.com.
What the hell? It won’t let me click “like”!
Your “Likes” come through as cyber-vibes regardless!

Thank you, Sophie, and a nice evening to you, too!
Isn’t it amazing how intense and how still they are when they’re hunting? I have been able to get closer than normal when they’re this focused. I’ve never seen one hunting a Dragon fly! You have captured a very unique image Kenn! Well done!!
Thank you, Deborah!
A beautiful shot!

Well, what do you know. You ARE in my reader. I just made a liar out of myself. Hmmmm…..so today my reader decides you are in it, just after I tell you that you are not. OK. (sigh) It is my Gift for I get to see this great image again!!! Thank you, and (((HUGS))) Amy
To have me in your reader is a gift that you give me, my friend! 🙂
*blush* Aw, Ken, thank you. Really. I love your work and that is why I make sure you are in my reader to see it. I have the biggest smile on my face. (((HUGS))) Amy
You are too kind, Amy! I’m a big fan of your work, too! 🙂
I am truly humbled, Ken. When I started Petals, I had no idea where I was headed. And today, I am stunned at how many do come. What a journey I have been on, and still am on. Thank you for being a part of my life!!! Love, Amy
You must have used a LONG range zoom lens for this photo. I KNOW how Blue Herons will scare even if you are far away. Great shot you got!!!
For some reason, all the blogs I follow are not coming through on my reader. Because it is raining, today, I am actually going one by one to each gravatar that liked my last post to get to my friends’ blogs. Time consuming, yes. But it is not fair you keep coming to see me and I not you. Now when I hop back into my gardens (OH! I need a massage!) I won’t be able to do this. So enjoy me while you have me. (GRIN) (((HUGS))) Amy
Thank you, Amy—I enjoy you always! I used a 250mm lens for this shot, but I will note that this particular Blue Heron hangs around in my backyard quite a bit, and I do believe he’s getting used to my shutter-snapping. For a while, my mere opening of the door to the backyard would have him flying away. Now, he hears the door opening and glances over at me, but as long as I don’t move too quickly, he lets me snap away.
That is unbelievable because I know the slightest movement or noise will have a Blue Heron flying away. They don’t like to be seen! How truly honored you are to have this beautiful bird trust you. Anything is possible with LOVE and darn it, this Blue Beauty feels the love you have for her. The same happens in my life. How awesome!!!! (((HUGS))) Amy
Wonderful photo !!!
A great capture beautiful colors !
Thank you, my friend!
